Hacienda Corona de Guevavi
Hacienda Corona de Guevavi, located between the towns of Tubac and Patagonia along the banks of the Santa Cruz River, was once the headquarters of Guevavi Ranch - the oldest ranch in the state of Arizona, founded by Juan Bautista de Anza Sr. in 1728. It is also the site of Father Kino's first mission established in the United States in 1691.
In the 1940s and 1950s bullfighter/artist Salvador Corona painted the courtyard walls with charming Mexican market scenes. During this time the Hacienda's then owner provided his cattle for the filming of the John Wayne film, Red River. The rancher and the actor became fast friends and Wayne and other Hollywood stars visited the ranch frequently.
The Hacienda's five rooms offer "the refined luxuries of a rustic, yet seductively comfortable escape", (AAA Highroads Magazine). Guest room doors open onto lush gardens with spectacular views of the surrounding high desert hills. There is no need to go hiking in search of birds, many species make their homes right here. The mosaic tile swimming pool offers cool refreshment on warm sunny days.
Three separate casitas are ideal for families with small children and for those desiring longer stays. Because the Hacienda and its rooms are spacious, it is the perfect choice for family reunions and retreats. The beautiful gardens make an exquisite backdrop for weddings and other celebrations.
Centrally located, Hacienda Corona is the perfect place to get away, relax and explore all that Santa Cruz County has to offer - Mexico, wineries, art galleries, boating, golfing, birding, horseback riding, world class boot making and much, much more.
